That many of the victims of the Titanic disaster died from exposure and not from drowning was quite evident from an examination of the bodies recovered from the sea by the ships sent to search in the vicinity of the disaster. This fact was first brought to light when the steamer Minia returned to Halifax on May 6 with 15 bodies and reported having buried 2 others at sea. A careful examination of the 17 bodies recovered by Dr. Mosher, the Minia's physician, showed that only 1 of bodies had water on the lungs, the other unfortunates having died from exposure.
While I have not been able to communicate with Dr. Mosher, above statement was made by Rev. H. W. Cunningham, chaplain on Minia, on her return to Halifax, who repeated it to-night and gave as his authority Dr. Mosher, ship's physician. I have, however, positive knowledge that Capt. Decarterett, of Minia, in report of his trip to White Star Line and to Anglo-American Cable Co., owners of Minia, used practically same words regarding condition of bodies recovered. H. C. WOLFE. Le fait que bon nombre des victimes de la catastrophe du Titanic soient mortes à la suite d’une exposition au froid et non d’une noyade était tout à fait évident d’après un examen des corps récupérés de la mer par les navires envoyés à la recherche dans les environs de la catastrophe. Ce fait a d’abord été mis en lumière lorsque le vapeur Minia est revenu à Halifax le 6 mai avec 15 corps et a rapporté en avoir immergé 2 autres en mer. Un examen attentif des 17 corps récupérés par le Dr. Mosher, le médecin du Minia, a montré que seulement un des corps avait de l’eau sur les poumons, les autres malheureux étant morts de l’exposition au froid.
Bien que je n’aie pas été en mesure de communiquer avec le Dr Mosher, la déclaration ci-dessus a été faite par le révérend H. W. Cunningham, aumônier du Minia, à son retour à Halifax, qui l’a répété ce soir et a donné comme autorité au Dr Mosher, médecin du navire. J’ai, cependant, la connaissance positive que le Capitaine Decarterett, du Minia, dans le rapport de son voyage à la White Star Line et à l’Anglo-American Cable Co., propriétaires du Minia, a employé pratiquement les mêmes mots concernant l’état des corps récupérés.
